Akon recently talked about the comparisons between Lady Gaga, who is signed to his music label and the "Not Myself Tonight" singer Christina Aguilera.
"Aw man, that's not even any competition," Akon told VIBE. "You are actually giving Christina too much credit. She always had her cool little look and way about how she went about things. But soon as Gaga came out everything switched up. Christina stepped out of her own shell to become something different. And the crazy thing is Christina is really talented. She has unlimited range when it comes to singing. Her voice is out of here. I just think she just needs to believe in herself more. I think sometimes she gets insecure because of all of the success Gaga has had not realizing that she was already successful before Gaga came out."
Konvict Muzik label head who is preparing to release his own album this summer continued, "Christina shouldn't have anything to prove or anyone to compete with. I miss the old Christina Aguilera. I like the old one better than the new one. Honestly, Gaga and Christina could probably get together and do something that's amazing. But that's impossible if they are both trying to do the same exact thing musically."
It was reported previously, Akon is ready to retire from music on Lady GaGa success and he wants to focus on the business side of his label.Speaking of place to live when he retire, the "Lonely" singer says he wants to stay in Australia. "That's my retirement place, right there," Akon said. "I love it there."
Akon along with Belinda, Pitbull, Jenny Rivera and David Bisbal, as well as Hollywood actors Michelle Rodriguez and Jesse Garcia were among participants at MTV Tr3s' Rock N' Gol, a two hour special celebrating the 2010 South Africa World Cup.
The show has taped on March 31 at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on June 3.
Following the blocked concert in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Akon has found a new country, Maldives, to host his show. "We are very happy he is planning to come and perform," President Mohamed Nasheed's press secretary Mohamed Zuhair said.
But Akon's rep has yet to officially confirm on the concert in the capital Male, which is planned for April 23.
Akon's concert in Colombo, Sri Lanka is officially banned by the Country's Government announced on Tuesday, March 23 as they denied an entry visa to the singer. Its decision has been ratified by the Cabinet, prior to the attack a group of Buddhist Monks, who claimed Akon is disrespected Buddhism, at the Maharaja Organisation head office.
Akon reportedly has apologized for his video, which features women in bikinis dancing around a pool with a visible Buddhist statue. He insisted he was not aware about the statue being on his set, when he shot the video. He said, "I would never set out to offend or desecrate anyone's religion or religious beliefs. I myself am a spiritual man, so I can understand why they are offended, but violence is never the answer and I am disheartened to hear about what happened in Sri Lanka".
